Baleshwar: A 55-year-old woman died after a snake bit her while she was plucking ridge gourd (Janhi) from the kitchen garden behind her house in Meghamadhab village under Unit No. 18 in the Sora area of Baleshwar district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Swarnalata Barik.
According to reports, she had gone to the backyard kitchen garden in the morning to harvest ridge gourd, when a snake suddenly bit her on the right hand.
Hearing her cries for help, her family members rushed to the spot and immediately shifted her to the Sora Community Health Centre (CHC). However, doctors at the hospital declared her dead on arrival.
The sudden death has left the family and residents of the village in shock.
