Mayurbhanj: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly strangled to death with a cloth before being hanged near Matha Chhaka under Jharpokharia police station limits in Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased has been identified as Lizarani Patra, and the accused husband as Kshitish Patra.
Upon being informed, Jharpokharia police immediately reached the spot and seized the body in a hanging condition.
While preliminary police investigation suggests that the Lizarani might have been murdered due to suspicion over an illicit affair, the father and family members of the deceased have levelled serious allegations terming it as a dowry-related murder.
According to the complaint filed by the deceased’s father, his daughter had been subjected to inhuman physical and mental torture by her in-laws.
He alleged that Lizarani’s family had been torturing her as he failed to fulfil their dowry demands including Rs 10 lakh, a vehicle and furniture.
He also alleged that a compromise had also been reached earlier at the police station in this regard, but ultimately she was killed.
Police have detained three persons including the accused husband Kshitish, his mother and father and are investigating the matter.
