Puri: In an alleged case of domestic violence, a woman was critically injured after allegedly being set on fire by her husband at the Alamchandi area under Kumbharpada police station limits in Puri district on Thursday.
Police said they received information about the incident at around 7:50 pm. Acting swiftly, Kumbharpada police reached the spot and rescued the injured woman, identified as Sarojini Mallick (30). She was rushed to Puri District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. After primary treatment, she was referred to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar for advanced care.
As per preliminary investigation, the victim’s husband Bikram Kumar Mallick (37) allegedly set her on fire following a family dispute. Based on the allegation, Kumbharpada police have detained Bikram and launched an investigation.
A case has been registered at Kumbharpada police station under Case No. 453/2026 and all angles of the incident are being investigated.
