Bhubaneswar: Nayagarh police on Sunday arrested a woman and her son for allegedly murdering 48-year-old forester Sisir Sahu over suspicions of an extra-marital affair.
Police identified the accused as Namita Sahu and her son Abhishek Sahu. The incident took place on Saturday in the Baramasidanda area under Panchirida forest section, where Sisir’s half-burnt body was recovered from his residence.
According to police, a heated argument erupted between Sisir and his family members after tensions escalated over his alleged relationship with a woman forest guard in the Gania range, where he had been posted for the last six years.
Investigators said Namita and Abhishek allegedly poured petrol on Sisir and set him on fire. Initially, they ran to other rooms, but later returned and reportedly poured more petrol to ensure he died from his injuries.
“We have arrested the wife and son based on strong evidence. Their involvement in the murder is clear, and further action is underway,” said Nayagarh Additional SP Subhas Panda while speaking to reporters.
Police have recreated the crime scene and launched a detailed probe to confirm the sequence of events. A case has been registered and both accused remain in custody.
