Bhubaneswar: With the Rath Yatra scheduled in July, ensuring smooth vehicular movement and effective traffic management in Puri has been accorded top priority by the State Government.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan have been consistently emphasising the development of road and bridge infrastructure connecting to Puri.

In line with this commitment, Principal Secretary, Works Department, Sanjay Kumar Singh, visited the construction site of the Matiapada Road Over Bridge (ROB) on Friday and reviewed the progress of the project.

During the inspection, Singh reviewed pending works in detail and assessed the progress of key construction activities. He directed the executing agency to expedite the launching of the bow-string girder and the casting of the bridge deck slab. He further stressed strict adherence to safety protocols and prescribed quality standards during execution.

Emphasising timely completion, he instructed the agency to deploy adequate manpower, machinery, and resources while maintaining close coordination with the Department to ensure adherence to the stipulated timeline.

The EPC contracting agency informed that the bow-string girder launching will be completed by 15 June 2026, while the deck slab casting is scheduled for completion by 20 June 2026.

Upon completion, the Matiapada ROB is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in the area, reduce travel time, and provide seamless connectivity for commuters. The project is also expected to strengthen regional transport infrastructure and improve traffic management in Puri.

The inspection was attended by Chief Engineer (National Highways-I) Er. Narayan Patel; Chief Construction Engineer, National Highways Circle, Bhubaneswar, Er. Ajit Kumar Ray; Superintending Engineer, National Highways Division, Bhubaneswar, Pupun Kumar Pradhan; Superintending Engineer (R&B), Er.
