Bhubaneswar: Wrapped in a plastic bag, a newborn girl was found abandoned on the roadside at Khhalikani village under the police limits in Bolangir district, on Friday.
The incident took place 10 kilometres away from Bolangir town.
According to sources, a couple heard her cries while passing on the road. To their utter surprise, they found the baby girl wrapped in a plastic bag, and then with a thin towel. They informed the police without delay.
On a tip-off, police rescued the baby and handed her over to the Child Welfare Committee.
The infant was rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital. Her condition is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, police are looking for persons who dumped the baby in a plastic bag.
