Berhampur: A newlywed bride was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her in-laws’ house in S. Gopalpur village under Patapura police station in Ganjam district, on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Nisha Pradhan, wife of Bikram Baral.

According to sources, Bikram Barad eloped with Nisha, a girl from Bhusanda village under Digapahandi police station 11 months back.  After their return to their village, the couple got married according to community customs. However, since then, Nisha’s in-laws had been torturing her. Frustrated over it, she had been living with her parents. Nisha’s husband brought her back to their home during Diwali after convincing her.

Nisha’s family alleged that she was murdered by her in-laws, who had been harassing her for dowry. Nisha’s mother, Kumari Pradhan, filed a complaint with the police, stating that her daughter was poisoned by her mother-in-law.

On the other hand, Nisha’s mother-in-law stated, “Her husband was staying outside due to work. There was a quarrel at home, but we don’t know how she died or what she consumed.”

Police have launched an investigation based on the complaint filed by the deceased’s mother.
