Bhubaneswar: In a heartbreaking incident, a young man drowned in front of his mother at the Potero Barrage in Malkangiri Odisha.
The deceased has been identified as Anup Dhar, a resident of MV-36 village under Korukonda block.
According to reports, Anup had gone to the Potero Barrage near Balimela along with his family members, including his father Rupakant Dhar, for a bath. While bathing, Anup suddenly went missing in the water.
His foot reportedly got stuck in a crevice between rocks, preventing him from surfacing.Despite frantic efforts by family members and locals, Anup was eventually pulled out of the water. He was immediately rushed to Balimela Medical facility, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area. Anup’s maternal uncle, Bhabatosh Choudhury, alleged that a sudden surge of water in the river led to the tragedy. The family has demanded immediate assistance and compensation from the authorities.
Officials from the nearby Police Station reached the spot and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
