Sundaragada: A young woman was allegedly set on fire by her boyfriend late last night after petrol was poured through a pipe from a window while she was sleeping. The incident occurred in Jaratoli village under Santoshpur Panchayat of Bishra Block in Sundaragada.
The victim, Anju Toppo, has been admitted to a private hospital in Rourkela and is in critical condition. Anju’s father is a Samiti member of Santoshpur Panchayat. Family members have alleged that Anju’s boyfriend committed the crime due to a relationship issue.
They have lodged a complaint with the police. Police and a scientific team reached the spot and have begun an investigation. Officials are examining whether the attempted murder was linked to a personal relationship or political enmity.
