Baripada: The Mayurbhanj Special Fast Track POCSO Court on Saturday sentenced a 25-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict, Asit Behera of Kendua village under Baisinga police station. In default of payment, Behera will undergo an additional six months of imprisonment, the court ruled.
According to case records, the incident took place on November 4, 2024, when the minor was returning home from the market. Behera abducted the girl, took her to his house, and raped her. He further threatened to kill her if she revealed the ordeal.
On returning home, the victim narrated the incident to her family, who immediately lodged a written complaint with Baisinga police. Following the complaint, police registered a case, recorded the victim’s statement, and arrested Behera.
During the trial, the prosecution presented witness testimonies, the medical report, and the police investigation report, which collectively established Behera’s guilt. The case was prosecuted by public prosecutor Manoranjana Pattnaik.
