Balasore: A 26-year-old youth died by suicide after losing a huge amount in an online gaming app at Sahajipatna village under Remuna police station in Balasore.
The hanging body of Gautam Nayak (26) was recovered from his house at Sahajipatna village. Police recovered the body and sent it to Balasore District headquarters hospital for autopsy. The young man had bet nearly Rs 5 lakhs through an online gaming app. He lost his life after playing the game to recover his lost money.
He had been playing the online game since the lockdown period, relatives said.
“We have been counselling him since the time of lockdown. But, he always engaged him in the online game. We suspect that he lost around Rs 4-5 lakh. He was trapped in the game with the intention to recover the lost money. He had earlier also attempted suicide many times. But we had kept him under strict vigil. After losing much, he lost his mental balance and took the extreme step,” a relative said.
“We appealed to the youth mass not to fall prey to the online game to gain quick money,” he said.
