Youth Drowns In Mahendratanaya River Near Paralakhemundi

Paralakhemundi: A man drowned in the Mahendratanaya River near Kerandi village under Paralakhemundi Adarsha Police Station limits in Gajapati district on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Subash Barad, a resident of Kerandi village.

According to reports, Barad had gone to the river for a bath around noon when he accidentally slipped into a deeper section of the river. Unable to stay afloat, he was swept into the middle of the waterbody and drowned.

Local residents present at the spot made efforts to rescue him and alerted the authorities. On receiving information, a team from the Fire Services department rushed to the scene and recovered Barad in an unconscious condition.

He was immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital at Paralakhemundi for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
