Boudh: A youth sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a crocodile in the Mahanadi river while he had gone to the riverbank to relieve himself in Boudh district, police said.
The incident occurred near Marada village under Kusang range of Purunakatak area.
According to reports, the crocodile suddenly attacked the youth and dragged him into the Mahanadi. Despite sustaining serious injuries, he fought the reptile for nearly an hour before managing to free himself and reach safety.
The injured youth was subsequently rescued and rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment in critical condition.
The incident has triggered concern among local residents, particularly those living in villages along the Mahanadi, over the presence of crocodiles in the river.
