Koraput: The Jeypore Special Fast Track Court on Thursday awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to one Sujit Kuldip (24) after convicting him for kidnapping and raping a minor girl in 2021.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on Kuldip.
The court ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the victim in addition to the fine collected from the convict.
The court pronounced its verdict based on statements of 11 witnesses and 18 documents.
According to the proceedings of the case, on February 10, 2021, the minor girl had gone to a shop to purchase pulses. Seizing the opportunity Kuldip forcibly took her in an autorickshaw and raped her at the backside of a nearby temple. Later, Kuldip took her to his home promising to keep her as his wife.
In the process the minor girl got pregnant. On July 10, 2021, Kuldip drove her out of his home. The victim revealed the incident to her mother, following which the latter complained to the Mahila Police Station at Jeypore. Following the complaint police registered a case and arrested Kuldip. He was forwarded to court.
