Bhubaneswar: Twenty-four students who passed out from the World Skill Center (WSC) – the country’s first skill development institute in Odisha, left for Singapore on Saturday for advanced training. These merited students will be trained to upgrade their skills in various reputed companies in Singapore.
The advanced training under the ‘Globalisation’ initiative is a part of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s vision of the “Skilled in Odisha” programme.
Prior to leaving for their training in Singapore, the 24 trainees trained at the World Skill Center here for a week. These trainees will be working as apprentices at the Institute of Professional Education Services (ITEES) in Singapore for six months. They will be provided with the best canteen facilities, catering and related services during their six-month stay in Singapore. In addition, each trainee will receive 800 Singapore dollars per month as a stipend during their training.
On completion of the advanced training, the apprentices will get employment in various multinational Singapore companies on the basis of their performance.
Before the departure of the 24 trainees for Singapore on Saturday, a special programme was organised in the capital city to facilitate them and wish ‘bon voyage’ to them. Several dignitaries including Subroto Bagchi, Chairman of the Odisha Skill Development Authority, Government of Odisha; Usha Padhi, Principal Secretary, the Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha; Alka Mishra, Chief Executive, World Skill Center; and others were present at the function to wish the trainees.
All the speakers emphasised that it is crucial for the graduates who performed well in the World Skills Center to get global through working in Singapore. The Singapore training program will help them to hone their skills further and enable them to learn many new techniques and approaches in their work, they opined.
It is worth mentioning here that the World Skills Center and Singapore Professional Services signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the ‘Make in Odisha’ conclave held in Bhubaneswar from November 30 to December 4. The MoU signed between the two reputed institutes included a student exchange programme between the two institutes for advanced training.
