Nabarangpur: An inspiring example of compassion and responsive governance has emerged from Nabarangpur district, where a Block Development Officer (BDO) went beyond official duty to help an elderly woman struggling to return home after a medical check-up in the scorching summer heat.
Tentulikhunti BDO Manoj Panigrahi has won widespread appreciation after personally ensuring that an elderly woman reached her home safely. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, drawing praise from citizens for the officer’s humane and empathetic gesture.
The beneficiary, Sunadei Bagh of Gaudguda village, located around three kilometres from Tentulikhunti, had visited the Community Health Centre (CHC) for a routine health check-up. After consulting doctors and collecting medicines, she was unable to find any transport to return home and began walking under the intense midday sun.
While travelling for official work, Panigrahi noticed the elderly woman walking along the road. Concerned about her condition, he stopped his vehicle, spoke to her, and offered assistance. He then helped her into his official vehicle and personally ensured that she was dropped safely at her residence.
The gesture has resonated strongly with local residents, who have lauded the officer for demonstrating sensitivity and social responsibility. Many have described the incident as an example of how public service can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Speaking about the matter, Panigrahi said that Sunadei Bagh is already receiving benefits under various government welfare schemes, including pension and ration assistance.
He further directed officials concerned to provide her with a wheelchair without delay and instructed health department personnel to conduct regular health check-ups at her home.
The incident has emerged as a heartening example of compassionate administration, highlighting the human side of governance and earning admiration across the district and beyond.
