Sambalpur: Hirakud police here have arrested two persons on charges of defrauding a local by impersonating as cops.
The victim in this case had reported that matter to Hirakud police that one Prasanta Mirdha and Kante Srinivas extorted Rs 5,000 from him through phone banking to carry out a job.
The fraudster duo had identified themselves as police officers, the complainant said. On the basis of the complaint, police launched a search and nabbed the accused.
Police uniform, badge marked as IIC, mobile phones and other incriminating items were seized from their possession. They have been remanded to judicial custody.
