Bhubaneswar: A city animal rights NGO, Animal Welfare Trust has filed a complaint with Commissionerate of Police to investigate the death of a lioness at Nandankanan zoo here on Saturday.
According to the zoo authorities, a snakebite could be the reason behind the incident, the NGO has demanded a thorough probe into the lioness’ death.
Animal Welfare Trust has demanded that the autopsy of the dead lioness be conducted at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar instead of OUAT.
According to the zoo authorities, local staff spotted a poisonous snake in the animal’s enclosure prior to her falling sick on Friday. The lioness succumbed a day later.
