Bhubaneswar: The Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining area of coastal Odisha, north Coastal Andhra Pradesh & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal concentrated into a Depression on Tuesday. It is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Odisha.
During the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, and Keonjhar, informed the Bhubaneswar centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
It may trigger landslides/mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas. There is the possibility of flash floods and temporary water logging in low-lying areas, inundation of agriculture fields, occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas, and some damages to Kutcha roads and vulnerable Kutcha houses.
The IMD has advised keeping arrangements for drainage of excess water from inundated agriculture fields.
It also warned that heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri during the next 24 hours.
The weather agency has informed that squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65kmph likely over North-West Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast, till August 11. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along & off Odisha coast & North-West adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal till August 11.
