Balasore: Seven persons were detained by police for torching a government liquor outlet at Naichhanpur under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district on Sunday night.
Reportedly, the owner had built a house in the area for residential purposes but later opened a liquor outlet. The villagers had protested it and the outlet had been closed for three months.
But recently, the owner of the liquor shop approached the High Court and got permission to open it. The liquor outlet was opened in the presence of police and Bahanaga Tehsildar.
The villagers protested against it and clashed with the police. Late last night, the women of the village protested again, ransacked the liquor shop, and allegedly set it on fire. Police picked up seven persons in this connection.
