Ganjam: Two persons were killed and three others critically injured after a motorbike was hit by a speeding tanker carrying cashew nut oil near Badaghat on National Highway-16 in the Khallikote area of Odisha’s Ganjam district late on Sunday night.
The deceased have been identified as Bishnu Priya Subudhi of Bikrampur and truck driver Narasingha Rao from Visakhapatnam. The injured include Bishnu Priya’s brother Ramachandra Parshay and niece Ashutosh Subuddhi. They were first rushed to Khallikot Community Health Centre and then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their condition worsened. The helper of the tanker Jayaram also sustained severe injuries in the accident.
According to reports, the tanker carrying cashew oil from Palasa was heading towards Kolkata. Near Badaghat the brake pipe of the vehicle broke and it crashed against a motorbike and a car moving ahead of it.
After hitting the bike and car, the tanker overturned and plunged about 40 feet from the Badaghati road. Apart from the tanker driver Narsingh Rao, the other deceased were riding the bike.
