Odisha Govt Pays Compensation To Deceased Drivers’ Kin

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government today paid compensation to the family of deceased drivers through Odisha Motor Transport Drivers and Workers Welfare Board at a special programme held at Rabindra Mandap here on Monday.

The members of the welfare board were also given identity card.

The Driver Mahasangh put forth its various demands before the government. Compensation to the dead driver’s family was one of their prime demands.

Family members of some deceased drivers received a cheque of Rs 2 lakh each from Transport minister Tukuni Sahu. The beneficiaries who received the compensation are Sukanti Patra, Prabhati Bhoi, Ananya Sahu.

Chief Secretary PK Jena, Transport Department Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, Odisha Driver Mahasangh President Prashant Menduli were among others present on the occasion.

Members of Odisha Motor Transport Drivers and Workers Welfare Board Prashant Menduli, Dipak Nayak, Aditya Prasad Behera, Pradip Kumar Mohanty, Prashant Pradhan, Akshya Nayak were given identity card.

The members of the driver Mahasangh were requested to place their demands in appropriate forum and refrain from announcing strike in haste.
