Nuapada: An exchange of fire ensued between the CRPF personnel and outlawed Maoists inside at Barakote area inside Sunabeda Sanctuary in Odisha’s Nuapada district in the early hours of Friday.
According to reports, the CRPF jawans on Thursday night undertook a combing operation inside the forest to destroy a Maoist camp. When the jawans were returning to their camp in Barakote, the outlawed red rebels opened fire on them near Barkote Ghat. The jawans also opened fire in retaliation resulting in a brief gun battle inside the dense forest. The combing operation was continuing inside the forest till the time of writing this report.
No injury from any side has been reported in the exchange of the fire so far. Senior CRPF and district administration officials have reached the spot.
The CRPF personnel started a search operation at the encounter site following the incident.
