Bhubaneswar: The newborn boy stolen from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla three days ago has been traced to a couple in Rengali, Sambalpur.

The police have detained the couple and are interrogating them in connection with the incident. The infant has been admitted to VIMSAR for medical examination.

Sambalpur SP Mukesh Bhamu said, “We formed a special team that made extensive efforts by questioning people from various sections and examining CCTV footage from various locations. Women officials were engaged in the operation, and the IIC and I monitored the investigation. Ultimately, we successfully cracked the case.”

VIMSAR director Dr. Bhabagrahi Rath said, “We are happy that the infant has been reunited with his mother. His condition is good, and we are still examining him. We are taking additional measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”

The infant was allegedly stolen from VIMSAR hospital by an unidentified woman. A couple from Chhattisgarh filed a complaint stating that their newborn baby boy was stolen. According to the family, the woman created a friendly relationship with them and their family members before stealing the baby, which was captured on the hospital’s CCTV camera.
