Bhubaneswar: An Odisha Legislative Assembly standing committee is on a study tour of Telangana and Tamil Nadu to examine practices and initiatives that could help bring reforms in the state’s technical education sector, officials said.

The seven-member Departmental Standing Committee-7, headed by its chairman Sudhir Ranjan Pattjoshi, began the tour on August 6.

The committee members include MLAs Tusharkanti Behera, Tankadhar Tripathy, Agasti Behera and Durga Charan Tanti, among others. Legislative Assembly officials Ishwar Chandra Nayak and Prashanta Kumar Das are also accompanying the delegation.

As part of the tour, the committee visited the Telangana State Legislative Assembly on August 7. On August 9, the delegation visited Thiagarajar Engineering College in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, where it inspected various facilities, including technical laboratories, study rooms and the Electronic Centre of Design and Manufacturing.

The committee also held detailed discussions with the college management on the importance and practical application of technical knowledge and skills.

Discussions focused on ways in which the technical education practices and expertise available at the institution could be adapted and utilised in Odisha to strengthen and reform the state’s technical education system, the official statement said.

The tour is aimed at gaining insights into educational practices and institutional models that could contribute to improving technical education in Odisha.
