Bhubaneswar: After an intense cold wave swept through Odisha for the last couple of days, the minimum temperature is likely to rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius during the next three days, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has forecasted light to moderate rain in several parts of Odisha from Wednesday.
The weather agency has predicted light rain or thundershowers at one or two places in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput, while dry weather is likely to prevail over the rest of Odisha’s districts on Wednesday. Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at one or two places in Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi on December 19.
A yellow warning for thundershowers and lightning has been issued for Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi. On December 20, thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur at one or two places over Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, and Deogarh.
The cold wave condition prevailed in most parts of the state in the last 24 hours in Odisha, with G Udaygiri experiencing the worst of the intense chill at 4.7 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), 13 places in the state recorded a minimum temperature below 10 degrees Celsius. G Udaygiri recorded the lowest temperature at 4.7 degrees Celsius, while Rourkela came second with 5.7 degrees Celsius, and Similiguda recorded 6.5 degrees Celsius. This was followed by Jharsuguda (7.2 degrees Celsius) and Phulbani (7.5 degrees Celsius). Sundergarh recorded a minimum temperature of 8.6 degrees Celsius, and Keonjhar witnessed 8.9 degrees Celsius.
Angul, Bhawanipatna, Nabarangpur, Kirei, and Chiplima each reported a minimum temperature of 9 degrees Celsius. Bhadrak became the 13th coldest place, reporting a minimum temperature of 9.5 degrees Celsius. The IMD predicts shallow to moderate fog in one or two places of Kalahandi and Sundergarh districts in the next 24 hours.
