Baripada: Two persons were killed after being struck by lightning while returning home from agricultural fields in Kashipal village under Baripada Sadar police station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Monday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Katul Hansda (48) and Phulmani Hansda (40), both residents of Kashipal village under Rajabasa panchayat.
According to reports, the two were returning home after completing farming work when the weather turned stormy, with lightning and rain lashing the area. A lightning bolt suddenly struck them, causing them to fall unconscious at the spot.
Local residents rescued the two and rushed them by ambulance to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
On being informed, Baripada Sadar police reached the hospital, seized the bodies and registered an unnatural death case. Post-mortem examinations were subsequently conducted, IIC Sasmitha Mohanta said.
