Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday returned more than 100 mobile phones to their rightful owners, who had either lost them or had them stolen.
The Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) organized a mobile handover event, during which these mobile phones were returned to their owners.
Bhubaneswar’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena addressed the press during a conference, highlighting the significant efforts taken to track and recover the devices.
“We take mobile phone theft and loss cases very seriously,” said DCP Meena. “Whenever we receive a report of a missing or stolen mobile phone, we immediately begin the process of filing a missing entry form. In cases of theft, we follow the necessary procedures to investigate further. The UPD has set up a dedicated cell to handle such cases, with one Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and two constables closely monitoring and tracking the cases.”
The Commissionerate Police uses advanced tracking methods to recover stolen mobile phones.
“We track the IMEI number of each mobile phone. If a new user starts using the phone, we track it through the SIM card, pinpointing the user’s location. Once we identify the location, we seize the device,” Meena explained.
The successful recovery was made possible thanks to the diligent efforts of Constables Manoj Kumar Nayak and Rabindra Kharsel, who played a key role in tracking and recovering the phones.
“This is a happy moment for us and for the people who have had their mobile phones returned,” DCP Meena stated. “One person told me he never expected to get his smartphone back and when I heard that, I felt professionally satisfied.”
The recovery process has been ongoing at the station level. In recent weeks, the Capital Police Station has returned 7 mobile phones, the Pahala Police Station has returned 17 phones in one week, and the Nandankanan Police Station has returned 25 mobile phones along with 2 stolen bikes.
