Bhubaneswar: To enhance the speed of legal proceedings and alleviate pressure on existing judicial systems, Odisha has set up 46 new Civil Judge (Junior Division) courts across 22 districts, according to an official press release issued on Friday.

The initiative, developed in consultation with the Orissa High Court, was formalized through a notification following approval by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

The new courts are strategically located in various districts, including Baliapal, Simulia, Soro, Bahanaga, and Jaleswar in Balasore; Rengali, Bamra, Kuchinda, and Jamankira in Sambalpur; Rayagada in Rayagada; Satyabadi in Puri; Saharpada and Harichandanpur in Keonjhar; Bahalda, Raruan, Bisoi, and Baripada in Mayurbhanj; Balikuda and Nuagaon in Jagatsinghpur; Balishankara, Lefripada, Bargaon, and Kuanrmunda in Sundargarh; Barang and Kantapada in Cuttack; Ulunda in Sonepur; Bhatli in Bargarh; Kolabira in Jharsuguda; Banapur in Khurda; Patangi in Koraput; Rasulpur, Korei, and Dharmasala in Jajpur; Mahakalpada, Garadpur, and Marshaghai in Kendrapada; Tikabali, K Nuagaon, and Khajuriapada in Kandhamal; Tihidi in Bhadrak; Khairput in Malkangiri; Dhenkanal in Dhenkanal; Patnagarh in Balangir; and Kukudakhandi, Dharakote, and Ganjam in Ganjam.

The press release highlighted that three of these courts—announced on April 23 in Baliapal (Balasore), Lefripada (Sundargarh), and Rengali (Sambalpur)—are now operational. With their establishment, the jurisdiction of other Junior Division Civil Judge courts over these revenue tehsils has been terminated.

This expansion aims to streamline judicial processes and improve access to justice across Odisha’s diverse regions.
