Odisha Schools Reopen After Summer Break; Safety Measures In Place Amid Diarrhoea Outbreak

Bhubaneswar: Schools across Odisha reopened today, after the summer break.

As schools reopened after the summer vacation, students were visibly excited to step back into their classrooms, eager to reconnect with friends and teachers. The atmosphere was buzzing with chatter and laughter as students shared stories of their vacation adventures. With fresh notebooks, new uniforms, and a renewed sense of purpose, they were ready to dive into the new academic session. The excitement was palpable as they exchanged summer tales, showcased souvenirs, and anticipated the year ahead.

As per the government decision, schools remained closed in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the capital city. This decision was likely made for security and safety reasons.

On the other hand, schools and Anganwadi centres in Jajpur will remain closed until June 24. Schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres in Bhadrak will remain shut until June 21 due to a diarrhoea outbreak in the area.

It’s worth noting that the Odisha government has been taking measures to ensure student safety and well-being, especially during health crises or high-profile events.

It is learnt that the state has implemented several precautionary measures. Schools lacking water purification systems are required to provide boiled drinking water to students. Additionally, mid-day meal cooks have been instructed to serve hot meals with boiled water.

Besides, special care will be taken for cleaning and sanitising school premises and water tanks to prevent the spread of diarrhoea. To minimise the risk of foodborne illness, fast food stalls near school campuses will be closed.

Most importantly, parents will be informed about the safety protocols through school meetings. Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene on school campuses will be a top priority”, maintained the Minister.
