Bhubaneswar: A well-marked low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining south Andaman Sea is set to intensify into a depression within 24 hours and a cyclonic storm over the south Bay of Bengal in the subsequent 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday. Despite the system’s west-northwestward movement, the IMD has not issued any weather warnings for Odisha for the next seven days, indicating minimal immediate impact on the state.
Dry weather prevailed across Odisha on Monday, though dense fog occurred at one or two places in Sundargarh, Koraput, Dhenkanal and Khordha, with shallow to moderate fog reported in Jagatsinghpur and Ganjam. Minimum temperatures fell by 2–3°C in parts of interior Odisha, while Phulbani recorded the state’s lowest minimum at 13°C and Paralakhemundi the highest maximum at 33.6°C. Night temperatures are expected to remain steady for the next five days before dropping by 2–3°C.
In Bhubaneswar, the forecast indicates fog or mist in the morning and a partly cloudy sky later, with temperatures likely around 31°C and 18°C. The IMD also issued no warnings for fishermen along the Odisha coast for the next five days.
