Bhubaneswar: Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha will be closed to tourists from January 4 to 8 for the crocodile and bird census. The census will be conducted by 14 teams of 70 Forest Department personnel.

The sanctuary will also be closed on January 17 and 18 for the same reason. Boating services on the Mahanadi River will be suspended on January 17 and 18 to facilitate bird counting. The Forest Department of Odisha has made necessary arrangements, including country boats, to ensure a smooth census process.

Satkosia Gorge Sanctuary is spread over 795.52 square kilometres across four districts: Angul, Boudh, Cuttack and Nayagarh. The water bodies of Satkosia are home to muggers.
