Bhubaneswar: One among the four students who had sustained severe burns in a fire accident at Paikadakuluguda Primary School in Rayagada district’s Bissam Cuttack block on January 5 has succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack today.

The deceased student Biren Takri (12) was a Class VII student of the school.

The incident occurred when students were playing with a thinner bottle, which caught fire, engulfing their clothes on January 5. Three other students, Naveen Huika, Rohit Khora, and Sudam Bag, were injured in the mishap apart from Biren. While the other students have recovered and been discharged, Biren was undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College in Cuttack due to severe injuries.

Meanwhile, family and villagers attributing Biren’s death to inadequate treatment staged a sit-in on the school premises and locked the teachers inside the school. Upon being informed, police released the teachers and dispersed the crowd after three hours.
