Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday inaugurated the Infocity-Ekamra Kanan Road. He also laid the foundation stone for the Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan Road and a flyover on it.
The Infocity-Ekamra Kanan Road is an important stretch. A massive eviction drive was carried out recently to free government land from encroachment. The stretch connects the existing side road from Salia Sahi Square via Hatiasuni to Infocity.
Together, these roads form the left parallel road. Construction of the new road has decongested the old stretch between Jayadev Vihar and Nandankanan.
That stretch will also undergo renovation. Government sources said a multi-agency special eviction and demolition drive was carried out. This helped expedite work on the proposed left-parallel road. It reclaimed 800 metres of government land in Salia Sahi.
The road is 60 metres (200 ft) wide. After it joins the stretch at Salia Sahi, it becomes a 13-km seamless alternate road for the city. This parallel road was essential to decongest the main Bhubaneswar-Cuttack National Highway-16. Most people use this highway to shuttle between the two cities.
The Jayadev Vihar-Patia-KIIT Square road caters to residents. Several hotels, corporate offices, big residential complexes, Nandankanan Zoo, and a private university are located along it. This road is now taking heavy traffic load. It becomes heavily congested during the evening. The existing Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan stretch will undergo renovation.
A flyover will also be built over it. This is part of a futuristic plan to expand the city’s road network and address the congestion issue. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation for a rest room named ‘Janasraya’ at Unit-II. Officials said the rest room will be a 20-storey building in the heart of the city. It will be able to accommodate 2,500 people at one time. It will be spread over 3 acres.
