Bhubaneswar: A former Excise Inspector has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a corruption case.
Indrajeet Sahu, former Inspector of Excise, Sadar Range, Bargarh, was convicted by the Special Vigilance Court, Bargarh, in a bribery case. He has also been directed to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.Sahu, who has since retired, was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
He was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant to avoid initiating an Excise offence case against him for selling mohua flowers, used for making alcoholic beverages, in his grocery shop without a license.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Indrajeet Sahu.
