Bhubaneswar: A 28-year-old private tutor was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping his minor student at a coaching centre in the city.
The accused, identified as Niranjan Mishra, a resident of the Chakeisaini area, was taken into custody by the Mahila Police Station following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family. According to police sources, Mishra allegedly sexually assaulted the girl, who was his student, within the premises of the coaching centre.
While the exact date and time of the assault have not been officially established, the crime came to light only after the traumatised girl narrated her ordeal to her family members upon returning home. Her relatives immediately approached the police and filed a formal complaint, demanding strict legal action against the tutor.
Acting on the complaint, officers from the Mahila Police Station registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused was subsequently arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police officials confirmed that the victim’s statement has been recorded under appropriate legal provisions, and she has undergone a medical examination to gather forensic evidence.
Further investigation in the matter is underway.
