Bhubaneswar: The death toll of Odia workers in the horrific ammonia gas leak accident in Tamil Nadu has risen to 15 with the passing of another patient undergoing treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Rohini Juanga, a young woman from the Juanga community of Harichandanpur block in Keonjhar district. She had been seriously ill since the gas leak incident and was under treatment. Despite the best efforts of doctors, she could not be saved.
With Rohini’s death, 14 of the victims are from Keonjhar district alone, while one is from Palalahada in Angul district. After Rohini’s body was brought back to her village, an atmosphere of grief gripped the area.
Family members were inconsolable as the entire village mourned the loss of the young worker. The Odisha government said it is closely monitoring the situation following the accident. All possible assistance is being provided to the affected families and steps are being taken for the treatment and safety of workers who are still under treatment.
