Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police Officers’ Association has demanded a high-level investigation into the death of lady police inspector Beauty Mohanty and called for a report to be submitted within 30 days.
Addressing a press meet, Association President Asit Jena said the case should not be treated as a general unnatural death. “A high probe team should investigate the case and complete the investigation within 30 days. It should not be considered simply as a UD case as it is a case of a gazetted police officer. We want such an incident should not repeat,” Jena said.
The association also raised concerns over work pressure in the police force and alleged that officers are not getting enough leave due to severe workload. Jena further said that the association expects proper investigation and cooperation from the DGP, Commissioner of Police and DCP in the matter.
Lady Inspector Beauty Mohanty was found hanging inside her official restroom on the first floor of Chauliaganj police station in Cuttack on Saturday morning. The incident has shocked the police department.
Earlier, Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh said Mohanty was professionally competent and also a physically and mentally strong woman. Singh, however, ruled out any official pressure that could have pushed Mohanty into taking the drastic step.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation.
