Kataka: One youth went missing while two others were rescued after they fell into the Mahanadi River while taking selfies near the old bridge at Naraj in Kataka district on Sunday evening.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 6:15 pm when three youths from the Machhua Bazar area in Kataka were standing on the old bridge at Naraj and taking selfies. In the process, they reportedly lost their balance and fell into the river, being swept away by the strong current.
On receiving information about the drowning incident, personnel from Baranga Fire Station rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Local residents also joined the efforts and managed to pull out two youths from the river in a conscious condition.
However, one youth went missing in the strong water flow. A search-and-rescue operation is currently underway by fire services personnel to trace the missing person.
