Bhubaneswar: Western and coastal Odisha witnessed intense rainfall in the last 24 hours, with the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar recording extremely heavy to heavy rain at multiple stations till 8:30 am today.
According to the IMD data, Hatadihi in Kendujhar district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 210.0 mm, categorized as ‘extremely heavy rainfall’.
The Met Centre reported 9 stations received very heavy rainfall and 48 stations recorded heavy rainfall during the period. However, Western Odisha bore the brunt of the rain. Atabira in Bargarh recorded 160.4 mm, followed by Burla in Sambalpur with 145.1 mm and Hirakud in Sambalpur with 140.0 mm. Padampur in Bargarh also recorded 140.0 mm. Other major recordings include Sambalpur city at 138.8 mm, Bangamunda in Bolangir at 132.0 mm, Laikera in Jharsuguda at 131.1 mm, and Dhankau da in Sambalpur at 128.8 mm.
In southern and coastal districts, Deogaon in Bolangir recorded 115.0 mm, Khairmal in Boudh received 102.6 mm, while Tureikela in Balangir and Sonepur town both recorded over 102 mm. Ghasipura in Keonjhar recorded 100.3 mm.
Coastal stations also saw significant rain with Bonth in Bhadrak at 98.0 mm, Banki in Cuttack at 97.0 mm, and Athagarh in Cuttack at 96.0 mm. Th.Rampur in Kalahandi recorded 95.0 mm.Several other stations including Khaparakhol, Jamankira, Bamra, Barapali, Gurundia, and Titilagarh recorded between 85 mm to 92 mm of rainfall.Districts like Sonepur, Bolangir, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Boudh, Kandhamal, Bargarh, and Sambalpur had multiple stations reporting more than 70 mm of rain.
The IMD has attributed the heavy rainfall to active monsoon conditions over the state.
