Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts due to active monsoon conditions beginning July 18.
For July 18, the IMD has issued an orange warning for the districts of Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in these western Odisha districts. Along with this, a yellow warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabrangapur. Heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in these districts as well.
On July 19, the intensity is expected to reduce slightly but heavy rain will continue. The Met Centre of Bhubaneswar has issued a Yellow Warning for Sundargarh, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Balangir districts, with heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places.
The forecast for July 20 shows that heavy rainfall will be confined to northern districts. A Yellow Warning has been issued for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, where heavy rain is very likely at one or two places.
For July 21, the IMD has again issued a Yellow Warning for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in these areas.
In view of the predicted rainfall, the weather department has advised people to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.
Citizens have been asked to check for traffic congestion on their route before leaving for their destination and to follow any traffic advisories that are issued.
The IMD also urged people to avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often and to avoid staying in vulnerable structures to ensure safety during heavy rain spells.
