Bhubaneswar: Odisha Fire & Emergency Services personnel responded to 143 special calls in the last 24 hours as the state grapples with flood situation due to heavy rainfall.
According to the 24-hour incident summary released by the department, rescue teams attended 7 road accident calls and saved 15 human lives. The force also responded to eight drowning calls amid waterlogging and flood alerts across several districts.
In addition, 48 animal rescue calls were attended, with 60 animals rescued and brought to safety. Fire personnel also carried out 35 tree cutting and road clearance operations to remove obstructions caused by fallen trees and debris. Besides, the Fire and Emergency Service personnel attended 25 dewatering calls in low-lying and waterlogged areas.
Fire & Emergency Services teams remain on high alert and are continuing round-the-clock operations to assist citizens during the inclement weather.
It is pertinent to mention that amid the flood situation in the state, the Odisha Fire Services Department’s ‘Operation Rescue’ is currently underway for relief and evacuation.
As per the data shared by the department on its X handle, the department has deployed 125 teams along with over 100 boats and more than 500 personnel in the flood-affected districts. As part of the ongoing rescue efforts, over 1,000 people and more than 150 domestic animals have been rescued so far.
