Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in Odisha continues to show improvement, with the overall situation remaining under control. River levels across all major rivers are showing a falling trend, while rainfall activity has also reduced significantly. The situation is being closely monitored by the state government in coordination with district administrations, and relief, response and restoration measures continue in the affected areas.
As per the latest reports released by Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Baleshwar remain affected by the flood situation. In Jajpur, Dasrathpur block remains affected, with 19 Gram Panchayats and 62 villages affected. A total of 22 relief camps are operational, covering 7,745 beneficiaries.
In Mayurbhanj, 21 blocks, 53 Gram Panchayats and 97 villages are affected, along with two wards of Baripada Municipality. A total of 29 relief camps are currently operational, covering 10,501 beneficiaries. Besides, 104 houses have been reported damaged and 9 polythene rolls have been distributed.
In Baleshwar, five blocks—Bhogarai, Baliapala, Basta, Remuna and Jaleshwar—are affected, covering 41 GPs and 214 villages. A total of 72 relief camps are operational and covering 35,740 beneficiaries.
Response teams continue to remain deployed in the affected districts. A total of 47 teams have been deployed today, comprising 21 ODRAF teams, four NDRF teams and 22 Fire & Emergency Services teams. In Jajpur, 3 ODRAF teams are deployed. Mayurbhanj has six ODRAF and 13 Fire & Emergency Services teams, while Baleshwar has 12 ODRAF, 4 NDRF and 9 Fire & Emergency Services teams deployed for response and rescue operations.
River levels across the State are showing a largely falling trend, indicating gradual improvement in the overall situation. At present, the Subarnarekha is the only river flowing above the danger level in the State. As of 12PM, the Subarnarekha at Rajghat stood at 10.84 m and is currently showing a falling trend, indicating gradual improvement in the river situation.
As of today morning, the Mahanadi at Naraj, IB at Sundargarh, Brahmani at Panposh, Baitarani at Anandpur and Akhuapada, Burhabalanga at N.H 5, Vansadhara at Gunupur and Jalaka at Mathani are also showing falling trends.
The Hirakud reservoir level stood at 627.29 ft, with an inflow of 1,41,962 cusecs, an outflow of 78,429 cusecs, and four gates open.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood is likely to move west-northwestwards across south Uttar Pradesh and adjoining north Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30–40 kmph are very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj, which have been cited under Yellow Warning.
People have also been advised to remain watchful and take safe shelter during thunderstorms to protect themselves from lightning.
District administrations have further been advised to remain alert to localised flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas, closure of underpasses, any possible damage to roads or vulnerable structures, and damage to horticulture and standing crops due to heavy rainfall or flooding. Relief and support measures continue in the affected areas till the return to normalcy. Cattle feed is being supplied to all flood-affected districts based on indents received from the concerned districts.
From the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner, the State Emergency Operation Centre continues to monitor the situation 24×7 in coordination with all District Emergency Operation Centres (DEOCs). The improving river situation and reduced rainfall activity are encouraging signs.
The state government continues to maintain a high level of preparedness, with round-the-clock monitoring, coordinated field response and necessary relief and restoration measures being undertaken to ensure that support reaches affected communities without delay.
