Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over north Odisha on September 8. While the chances of it intensifying into a low-pressure area remain low, its influence is expected to trigger heavy rainfall across the state until September 11, according to meteorological scientist Dr Sarat Sahu.
Under the impact of this system, most parts of north Odisha, including districts bordering Jharkhand and West Bengal, may receive heavy showers. Districts such as Jajpur, Baleshwar, Debagada, Kendujhar and Sundargada are predicted to witness good rainfall, with the possibility of heavy downpours at isolated places.
The weather department’s assessment indicates that rainfall activity over north Odisha may increase from September 9. On September 10, heavy rain is likely in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kataka, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj. Further, on September 11, widespread rain is expected over various parts of both north and south Odisha.
On Sunday, light to moderate rain has already been reported from several places across the state. Baripada recorded 17.8 mm of rainfall, while scattered showers occurred in parts of Bhubaneswar, Kataka and Kendrapada.
