Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, two persons from the same village drowned in Kusumi River while returning from their farmland in Nayagarh district.
The deceased have been identified as Narasingha Mohapatra (70) and Trinath Mohapatra (30) of Malisahi hamlet under Rabara village in Odagaon block.
Sources said wild boars had been damaging their standing crops. To guard the crops, both had gone to the fields at around 11 pm on Wednesday. As they did not return till late night, family members grew anxious and informed Bhabani Mohapatra, son of Narasingha, who works as a home guard at Odagaon police station.
Bhabani rushed to the village at about 4 am on Thursday and along with locals started searching for them. On suspicion that they might have been swept away in the Kusumi River which was in spate, the Fire Services team from Odagaon was alerted.
Fire personnel launched a search and fished out Narasingha’s body after combing a 2-km stretch.
Hours later, Trinath’s body was found by villagers stuck under Bhadikila bridge, around 6 km away from Rabara village. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and started an investigation.
