CBI Summons RG Kar Hospital Staff In Rape, Murder Probe

Kolkata: The new special investigation team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the R.G. Kar rape and murder case has summoned for interrogation all hospital staff, including doctors, who were on duty at the hospital building where the lady junior doctor was brutally raped and killed on the night of August 8, 2024.

The junior doctor was reportedly raped and murdered in a seminar room in that building of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital. Sources said the new CBI team wants to cross examine each hospital staff member, including doctors, who were present on duty in the same building that night.

Previously, the victim’s family had complained that the earlier investigation team neglected questioning those present in the building or at least on the same floor when the crime occurred.

Now, following a Calcutta High Court order for a fresh probe, the new team has started questioning all hospital staff, including doctors, who were on duty in the building that night.

Recently, a division bench of the Calcutta High Court expressed ire over the progress of the investigation even by the new probe team, advising the CBI to start from scratch instead of being influenced by the earlier investigation.

Thereafter, the new CBI team became more active. Officers confiscated the mobile phone of a woman employee of the hospital, reportedly the first to contact the victim’s family after the body was found in a seminar room on the morning of August 9.

Sources said the phone was seized considering allegations by the victim’s family that the staff member passed on contradictory information in subsequent calls within a short period of time.

The seized mobile phone has already been sent for forensic examination. Investigators are examining call records and other data to answer critical questions relating to the incident, sources added.
