Jaipur: The year-long celebrations commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly culminated on Wednesday with the grand finale of the ‘Vidhayi Gaurav Yatra’ at the Assembly premises.

Vice President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Governor Haribhau Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, former Speakers, former and sitting Members of the Legislative Assembly, and several distinguished guests were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan described the completion of 75 years of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly as a significant milestone in India’s democratic journey.

He said the unity displayed by members of both the ruling party and the Opposition reflected the maturity of Indian democracy and reinforced the spirit of democratic values.

Calling Rajasthan a land of courage, sacrifice, honour and duty, he said public representatives earn the confidence of citizens through their work and commitment to public welfare.

He noted that the participation of former and present legislators in the celebration symbolised the continuity of India’s rich democratic traditions.

The Vice President emphasised that democracy extends beyond elections and requires continuous accountability towards the people. He urged legislators to actively participate in Assembly proceedings and committee meetings, describing parliamentary committees as an essential pillar of effective governance.

Stressing the importance of accessibility and transparency, he said public trust remains the greatest strength of a democratic system.

Governor Haribhau Bagde said democracy has deep roots in India’s ancient civilisation, citing the traditions of the ancient Ganarajyas and Janapadas as evidence of the country’s long-standing democratic heritage.

He expressed concern about the declining quality of public discourse on social media and underscored the need to preserve civility, ethical conduct, and democratic decorum. He said democracy is sustained not only by rights but also by duties and responsible public conduct.

Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani said the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, inaugurated on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada of Vikram Samvat 2006, has played a pivotal role in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting public welfare over the past 75 years.

He described the ‘Vidhayi Gaurav Yatra’ as a platform for dialogue and exchange of democratic values between different generations of legislators.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said the 75-year democratic journey of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly reflects the state’s commitment to constitutional values and people-centric governance.

He said the Legislature has consistently played a vital role in shaping Rajasthan’s development and would remain central to achieving the vision of Developed Rajasthan-2047.

The event concluded with tributes to the contribution of former legislators and a renewed commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and legislative traditions in Rajasthan.
