Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government’s School & Mass Education Department on Monday announced that 10 schools from the state have been selected for National Awards under the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025–26, a national initiative aimed at promoting safe, sustainable and child-friendly learning environments.
The SHVR framework evaluates schools on key parameters including sanitation and hygiene, access to safe drinking water, greenery and biodiversity, waste management, and adoption of climate-resilient practices. The initiative encourages educational institutions to strengthen Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure while integrating environmentally responsible practices into daily school functioning.
A total of 20 schools from Odisha were nominated for national-level evaluation, of which 10 have been shortlisted for national recognition. The selected schools include Khairbani Ashram School, Hatiasila Primary School, Gobindapur Primary School, Binapani Upper Primary School, Fulkahanlei Nodal High School (Fulkahanlei), Chandrasekhar Dev Government High School (Siko), Sagarpali Government Middle High School, Mahendra Tanaya Ashram School (K. Dinpur), B. M. Pattanaik Government Upper Primary School, and Rabanaju Primary School.
The recognition highlights the collective efforts of teachers, students, school management committees, and local communities in strengthening sustainable practices within school campuses. Odisha’s performance in the initiative reflects its growing focus on environmental stewardship and climate-resilient education systems.
At the national level, 191 schools from 29 States and Union Territories have been selected for SHVR 2025–26 awards. Each selected institution will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a certificate of recognition, and an opportunity to participate in a three-day exposure visit to another state to exchange and learn best practices.
