Bhubaneswar: The 14th National Workshop of JICA-Assisted Forestry Projects began today at Hotel Mayfair Convention, focusing on “Future Ready Forestry: Climate Resilience, Digital Transformation & Sustainable Wood Economies”.
The three-day event, organised by Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project (OFSDP-II) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to integrate technology and sustainability in India’s forestry sector.
Forest Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia inaugurated the workshop, highlighting the importance of healthy forest ecosystems in addressing climate crisis and sustaining livelihoods. He thanked the Government of Japan and JICA for their support in protecting India’s natural heritage and vulnerable populations.
The workshop expects to bring together senior policymakers and international experts to discuss digital transformation and resilient forestry management. Speakers include Vineet S. Sarin from JICA India, Wakamatsu Eiji from JICA India, and officials from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The event comes as OFSDP-II nears completion in March 2027, with hopes for a Phase-III implementation to support Odisha’s developmental milestones and India’s vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047”.
