Balangir: Eighteen students from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya fell ill after allegedly consuming the dinner served at their school in Kholan village under Titlagarh block of Balangir district, on Monday.
According to preliminary reports, the doctor at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kholan attended to the students. Dr. Minaketan Kisan from the Kholan CHC stated that they primarily suspect food poisoning.
“On Monday around 4 pm, five students were admitted to the CHC. One student presented symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, and fever, while the other four had mild stomach pain and slight fever. After receiving treatment, they were discharged. However, on Tuesday, 13 additional students arrived at the CHC with similar complaints,” Dr. Kisan explained.
He further mentioned that the students claimed they had eaten fish curry on Sunday.
“We are considering the possibility of simple indigestion or food poisoning, potentially exacerbated by the current heat and humidity. When questioned, the students revealed that about 50 of them had been watching TV together in a single room, which may have contributed to the situation. However, our primary suspicion remains food poisoning,” he said.
